Augmented Reality

Augmented reality connects the physical world to digital content and information. What you can see is something you can search online, too.

With Augmented Reality, it’s as if they’re actually there with you, in your own space. Plus, it can help you in your day-to-day experiences.

You can also search for things visually. And all it takes is to point your Google Lens camera at them.

No more unanswered questions. It can put answers right there and then. So, you’ll see content on top of your real world.

This technology is now adopted by many people and organizations. For example, schools use it to create 3D graphs for math problems.

Retailers also have an AR feature that allows shoppers to see how an item looks like in real life. Even medical schools have an AR human body for students.

Augmented Reality in Google Lens

Now, you can also use AR to place 3D digital objects. You can access it directly from Search and Google Lens.

Some of its features include learning about NASA’s Curiosity Rover to human anatomy to animals. You can also create and play with the world through Playground.

Using this feature, you can put your favorite superheroes, stickers that animate around you, and fun captions.

And there’s more to it. Let’s find out.

Discover Stories Behind Paintings with Augmented Reality Google Lens

Before, museums banned photo-taking. Smartphones and tablets were also disapproved in classrooms.

But, technology now is winning. In fact, many establishments now embrace screens.

Now, you can visit museums and learn about the stories behind paintings using Google Lens. How?

San Fransisco’s de Young Museum collaborated with Google Arts & Culture. Using Augmented Reality in Google Lens, visitors can access information about the collection of art.

Using their smartphone, museum-goers can simply point their cameras to a painting or sculpture. Then, they can learn more information about it. This includes:

  • insight about the artist
  • what mediums were used
  • a brief history of the piece itself

Beside each painting, there is an information card. Then, it will turn into virtual launchpads.

For example, painter Rockwell Kent’s painting is in de Young Museum. After visitors scanned the informational placards, they learned about the following:

  • worked on murals
  • partnered with advertisements for General Electric and Rolls-Royce

The AR feature also has add-ons that exceed basic information. For example, point your camera at a dot drawing of a bee in the Osher Sculpture Garden.

Then, it will show a video by artist Ana Prvacki. The video shows her attempts to pollinate flowers herself with a bizarrely decorated gardening glove.

How it works

To use it, you need an Android device with:
